Meat Pie

I seem to crave different foods when I’m not feeling well. This time it was meat pie (my grandmother’s meat pie in particular).

The only bad thing was that I didn’t have her recipe!  I reached out to friends and family and rounded up three recipes that I decided to combine along with my own touches…I must say it came out wonderfully and I will definitely be making it again!

Here is the recipe…Now, if you don’t care for spicy food, feel free to tone down the heat.

2 lbs of ground beef

1/4 lb of roast beef (the person I got this from said to use canned beef and I couldn’t find any)

2 medium onions

1 T. minced garlic

1 t. Thai chili paste

1 (12 –ounce) canister of fresh mushrooms, sliced

spices to taste: Cayenne pepper, Paprika, Black pepper, Cajun Seasoning, and Garlic powder

parsley flakes

Worcestershire Sauce

2 cans of Campbell’s cheese sauce (any variety)

8-10 slices Provolone cheese

2 (9-inch) frozen pie dough in the pans

1 Pkg. of pre-made pie dough for the tops

Brown the ground meat over medium heat then drain. Put cooked ground meat back into the pan and add the other ingredients, except the cheese sauce and Provolone cheese. When the onions and mushrooms appear cooked, add the cheese sauce. Mix well. Split the mixture between the two pie pans and top with the Provolone slices. Place the top pie crust over the cheese and seal the edges (mine never look pretty enough). Cut 4 slices into your tops to allow for ventilation. Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 to 30 minutes or until brown.

Once out of the oven let sit for 5 minutes. Cut and serve.

Makes two 9-inch pies.

Try not to bite your fingers! I promise they’ll come back for seconds.
